An Evening With GLEN CAMPBELL

After quite an absence, the cross-over country superstar who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005 by the Country Music Association of America, Glen Campbell, is coming back to New Zealand for 3 concerts only in March, 2007. These are:-

  • Saturday 24 March, ROTORUA, Energy Events Centre at 8.30pm
  • Sunday 25 March, WELLINGTON, Michael Fowler Centre at 7pm
  • Tuesday 27 March, INVERCARGILL, Stadium Southland at 8pm

Glen Campbell As he has time for 3 performances only, tickets will be in strong demand across New Zealand. Glen brings his American touring band, and performs the entire concert. In Rotorua, there will be an early evening picnic time performance as well, from the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band. Glen's Special Guest is his eldest daughter, Debby, who performs in her own right, and also duets with Glen on songs that were recordings in which he duetted with other female performers.

Becoming a bonafide "living" legend isn't as easy as Glen Campbell makes it look. First, you have to have a solid foundation of talent on which to build נlike being one of the hottest guitar players in the world. Then you have to record songs that will stand the test of time נstandards such as By The Time I Get To Phoenix and Wichita Lineman. And of course, to be a "living" legend, you need to survive the harsh reality of a celebrity lifestyle. All of which Glen has done in style since 1961 when he hit the Los Angeles studio scene like a blast of fresh air. Glen quickly became a sought-after studio picker, his talents enriching records by such artists as Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Merle Haggard, Elvis Presley, Jan & Dean and the Righteous Brothers. In addition, Phil Spector and Jimmy Bowen used him for most of their projects, and the Beach Boys invited him to join their group in the mid-sixties. He toured with that legendary band for 18 months in 1964 and '65, until his own solo career took off.
