One of the difficulties of any production of a well-known (at least to a certain generation) movie, is to take out of our cinematic recall and stamp it with a real-life dynamism. It is a tribute to Catherine Downes direction that mostly it does this, given that the set and lighting clearly define the play as very much in the pop culture idiom of the 60's including the background music. Whilst on opening night it seemed that some performances were overly exaggerated - was this Opening Night nerves, or deliberately in-your-face Americana? - the overall result was, in my view, an excellent night out.
